Bridgestone keeps developing its Tatabánya tyre plant

The world's largest tyre producer inaugurates new warehouse and increases capacity in Hungary

As part of an ongoing development program, Bridgestone invested 9.2 billion HUF to develop its tyre production plant in Tatabánya, Hungary. The company today inaugurated extended for 10,000 square metres warehouse, suitable now for storing in total 600 000 tyres, which will allow supplying international and Hungarian car makers more efficiently. The tyre maker has also been implementing a substantial increase to its production technology enabling it to grow its output by 15% to 7.2 million tyres annually in the coming years. The development was supported by the Government of Hungary and the new facility was inaugurated in the presence of Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Bridgestone is the world's largest tyre and rubber company. Its plant in Tatabánya manufactures premium passenger car, SUV and van tyres for prestige category vehicles in more than 230 sizes. Most of the innovative and safe, summer, winter and all-season tyres manufactured in the plant are exported to European and overseas markets, but is increasingly supplying tyres directly to international and Hungarian car production plants.

The company has been continuously developing and expanding its plant in Tatabánya. As a result of these developments and the introduction of new, state of the art manufacturing technologies it has become one of the most modern Bridgestone plants in Europe. As part of the current investment, valued at HUF 9.2 billion, supported by Government of Hungary with 826 million HUF, Bridgestone Tatabánya Manufacturing Ltd. implemented several major development projects.

Important element of the current development, the company built a new warehouse with a floor size of 10,000 square metres and storage capacity of 180,000 tyres, increasing the total warehouse capacity in the Tatabánya plant to 600,000 tyres. The new facility will allow the company to supply and serve its customers, international and Hungarian car makers and wholesalers more efficiently and flexibly.

Apart from the new warehouse, Bridgestone has also been enhancing and increasing the production capacities of its artificial intelligence based digital tyre production technology. This improvement, jointly with other related developments, enables the company to increase its current annual output by 15% to 7.2 million tyres in the coming years.

“Our company has invested close to HUF 130 billion over the past twelve years in the construction, equipping and continuous development of its Tatabánya plant, making it one of the most modern Bridgestone plants in Europe” - said Melinda Topolcsik, Managing Director of Bridgestone Tatabánya Manufacturing Ltd. “As a result of these developments we have tripled our original manufacturing capacity and we are on our way to produce 7.2 million high quality tyres annually in the Tatabánya plant with Hungarian employees and Hungarian suppliers, with a growing volume of direct supply to car manufacturers in Hungary” - added the Managing Director.

Bridgestone assigns a priority to the well-being, health and workplace conditions of its employees. Its efforts were rewarded this year with the Family-friendly Workplace Award. The implementation of the current development projects therefore did not ignore the employees either. New changing rooms and training rooms supporting preparation for the use of digital manufacturing technology were built as part of the investment, and the company's staff increased to 1,300 employees.
