Bridgestone's Blizzak LM005 rated best-in-class in ADAC winter tyre test

  • ADAC, the largest motoring association in Europe, gave the Blizzak LM005 the best rating of all profiles in the test.
  • This is the latest accolade in several awards wins for Bridgestone’s flagship winter tyre.
  • The Blizzak LM005 is the first winter tyre to achieve an EU Label ‘A’-grade in wet grip for its full line-up.

Bridgestone’s top product for the cold season, the Blizzak LM005, is the winner of ADAC’s 2020 winter tyre test. Designed to give drivers exceptional control and safety in challenging conditions, the Blizzak LM005 impressed in all winter road conditions with its balanced performance on dry and snow-covered roads, and handling in the wet.

With these features, experts from ADAC, the largest motoring association in Europe, gave the Blizzak LM005 an overall score of 2.0 – the best rating of all profiles in the test – and named it the winner in the classification of the 15 tested profiles.

Advanced technology for reliable performance

Bridgestone’s Blizzak LM005’s outstanding features and performance is the result of the latest in tyre engineering.

The tyre is moulded from Bridgestone's Nano ProTech™ compound, which has high silica content to keep the tyre soft in cold temperatures for maximum traction and optimise performance in wet and snowy conditions. It has also been designed with a unique, zig-zag groove pattern to enhance water evacuation and improve adhesion with the road. The synergy between these features has delivered excellent results, with the LM005 the first winter tyre to achieve an EU Label ‘A’-grade in wet grip for its full line-up.

With its low rolling resistance and fuel consumption, as well as its low tyre and road noise, the Blizzak LM005 is also a more sustainable choice for customers. The energy efficient tyre not only benefits the driver in terms of mileage and cost-savings, but also means fewer emissions are released. These environmentally-friendly features were recognised by the ADAC, who awarded the Blizzak LM005 excellent ratings for its low rolling resistance and fuel consumption.

A focus on customer needs

During the development of the Blizzak LM005, Bridgestone surveyed 20,000 of motorists across Europe on their requirements for a premium touring winter tyre and the challenges they face in everyday use. The findings were clear: they expect a tyre that combines excellent control in the wet with strong performance on snow and ice. Bridgestone's Blizzak LM005 meets all these requirements, with excellent braking on snow and on dry and wet roads, and has already won several awards in independent tests in 2019.

Bridgestone’s Blizzak LM005 tyre was tested by ADAC on the VW Golf GTI with 205/55 R16 fitments, a dimension fitted in many of the most popular car models on the market.

The Blizzak LM005 is currently available in 171 dimensions for passenger cars and SUV/4x4s from 14 to 22 inches. Bridgestone’s innovative DriveGuard Run Flat technology has been integrated into 24 high-demand dimensions (16 to 18 inches) of the Blizzak LM005 to counteract sudden tyre damage, allowing vehicles to continue driving for up to 80 km at a maximum speed of 80 km/h in the event of a puncture.
